About

Just one mile from the Philadelphia border, Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania, is home to an extraordinary collection of historic architecture shaped by the faith and vision of the community’s earliest residents. Founded in the late 19th century as a religious community by members of the Christian denomination known as the New Church, Bryn Athyn offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience the area’s rich architectural, artistic, and religious heritage. The Bryn Athyn Historic District includes four remarkable buildings: Cairnwood, the Beaux-Arts mansion built by John Pitcairn; Glencairn, the residence of his son Raymond; and Bryn Athyn Cathedral. Constructed between 1892 and 1938, these buildings reflect the craftsmanship, artistry, and religious ideals of the community’s founders. The district was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2008. Today, visitors can explore these historic sites through tours, exhibitions, programs, and events offered throughout the year.
